  • Stems can grow up to 30 cm high

  • Petioles can be up to 2.5 m long

    • Occasionally are red

  • Leaves can be up to 2 m wide

  • Leaves are divided by 5 main vein

    • Veins are occasionally red

  • Produces a red inflorescence that can grow up to 1 m long

 

 

Habitat
 
  • Found in wet forests, more often in open areas or exposed ridgelines

    • In mountain ranges from Nicaragua to Colombia

Other Facts
 
  • Its Latin name is Gunnera insignis

  • It has a symbiotic relationship with Nostoc punctiforme, a cyanobacteria
