Jaguar

Physical Characteristics
 
  • Has yellowish brown fur with black spots all over

    • Has a white stomach

  • Has a short tail in regards to it being a cat

Habitat
 
  • It is found almost solely in forests

    • Only in forests of protected reserves however
  • They reside in the Tortuguero, Santa Rosa, and Corcovado National Park; the Rio Macho, lower Cordillera Talamanca, La Selva, and Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve
  • The jaguar lives in suitable forests from northern Mexico to northern Argentina
Behavior
 
  • Has a diverse diet

    • Likes peccary the most

      • Also eats monkey, agouti, eer, lizard, turtle, and other animals

    • They don't waste food

      • Will eat the ribs of their pray

  • They are mostly nocturnal but will ocasionally sun

  • They are also very good swimmers

  • They need large amounts of land to live on

Other Facts
 
  • The jaguars' main threat in Costa Rica isn't poaching, but habitat destruction

  • They are the first large mammals to dissapear when a forest is cut down

  • They used to be common in many habitats, but they are now very rare

  • In latin, their name is Panthera onca
